Biography
Nikolai A. Sobolev received the PhD degree with honours from the University of Jena (Germany) in 1978. Then he worked as a Professor and Researcher in Minsk, Belarus. Since 2005 he has been an Associate Professor at University of Aveiro, Portugal. He held Visiting Professor / Invited Scientist positions at the Technical Universities of Berlin and Gdansk, Universities of Jena and Ulm, University “MISiS” of Moscow. N.A.S. has been working on ion implantation, defects in semiconductors and quantum-size semiconductor structures, magnetic nanostructures, composite multiferroics and resistive switching devices. N.A.S. has (co)authored over 150 articles in refereed journals, six USSR patents, three book chapters. He has been chair / co-chair or committee member of more than 30 scientific conferences. Currently N.A.S. is a member of the Board of Delegates of the European Materials Research Society, editorial board member of seven scientific journals and coordinator of a European project.
