Dr. Jerzy A Szpunar is a Professor and Canada Research Chair in Materials Science for advanced materials for clean energy at The University of Saskatchewan located in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. His research group, at present is mainly focusing on materials for Generation IV nuclear reactors and novel techniques to support clean energy programs.Canada's energy industries require high-performance materials to generate, transport and store energy. University of Saskatchewan researcher Jerzy Szpunar is finding safer and more environmentally friendly processes to meet these needs.

Materials science

Dequan Xiao completed his PhD at Duke University in 2009 and postdoctoral studies at Yale University from 2009 to 2013. He is the director of Center for Integrative Materials Discovery and the University Research Scholar at the University of New Haven. He is focused on integrating frontier chemical theories with experimental methods to drive the discovery of new materials for the applications in renewable energy and molecular therapy. He has published more than 36 papers in high-impact journals and 3 book chapters, and has been served as the advisory board member of Connecticut NASA Space Grant Consortium.

Inverse molecular design of green catalysts for converting biomass into value-added chemicals: inverse molecular design theory, binding energy analysis of catalytic surfaces, and catalytic hydrogenation of biomass polymers; Computational design for polymer and dye-sensitized solar cells; and De novo design for molecular drugs for Leukemia cancer and Parkinson’s diseases. Prof. Leszek Adam Dobrzanski is a Full Professor of Materials Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering , Nanotechnology, Medical and Dental Engineering in the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice, Poland and a Supervisory Board Chairman, Project Manager and Principal Investigator in the Medical and Dental Engineering Centre for Research, Design and Production ASKLEPIOS Ltd in Gliwice, Poland. He is a Doctor Honoris Causa of the Universities in Bulgaria, Hungary and Ukraine. He is a Fellow of the Materials Science Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences PAS and the President of the Metallic Materials Section of this Committee. He is a Vice President and a Fellow of the Academy of Engineers in Poland. He is a foreign Fellow of the Ukrainian Academy of Engineering Sciences and the Slovak Academy of Engineering Sciences. He is the President of the World Academy of Materials and Manufacturing Engineering, and a President of the International Association of Computational Materials Science and Surface Engineering. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Achievements in Materials and Manufacturing Engineering, Archives of Materials Science and Engineering and Open Access Library

Dr El-Mahallawi is currently the Director of the Centre for Renewable Energy at the British University in Egypt which is contributing to the teaching and education and research activities in Egypt, energy efficiency in metallic industries, as well as being incorporated in social projects aiming at implementing renewable energy resources for subserviced and ruler areas in Egypt. She has also contributed in a number of field projects in production by rolling and casting, thermo-mechanical treatment, failure analysis, manufacturing of spare parts, as well as continuous industrial education projects for engineers and workers. She is also the coordinator for one of the National Standardization committees.

Dr El-Mahallawi’s research interests are in: energy materials (thermal solar selective absorbers, fuel cells bi-polar electrodes, thermal storage,etc.), engineering metallurgy (heat treatment, effect of production parameters, effect of alloying, etc.. on mechanical properties, failure analysis case studies, non-metallic inclusions and effect of steel cleanliness on properties of steel), modeling for metallurgical fields, conventional casting and continuous casting (technology, solidification), semi-solid casting and metal matrix composites produced by semi-solid casting, using nano-material for re-enforcement (surface and bulk nano-composites).

Dr. Li joined the faculty of mechanical engineering in January 2010. Previously, he was an associate professor at University of Washington in Seattle. He received his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Dr. Li's research is in materials processing and manufacturing, particularly multifunctional nanomaterials, biomaterials, and biomedical microdevices. Prof. Li also conducts research in manufacturing process monitoring and diagnosis. His research has been supported by the National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health, state agencies, and industry partners such as Chrysler and Boeing. Dr. Li received the prestigious Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) in 2005. He is a recipient of the CAREER award from National Science Foundation. Dr. Li served as a Board Director for North American Manufacturing Research Institution of SME and Chair of the Biomanufacturing Technical Committee of the ASME Manufacturing Engineering Division. He is an Associate Editor of ASME Journal of Manufacturing Science and Engineering and an editorial board member of Biofabrication.

Abourriche’s specialist areas are the development of original natural resources such as Moroccan oil shale. He also worked as Project Manager entitled: Solvent Extraction of organic matter of oil shale. Study and Promotion of the oils produced. This project is funded by Hassan II Academy of Science and Technology. In 2008 he took on the role of Head of the Industrial Engineering Department at National School of Applied Sciences Safi. He is the author of over 30 publications in international journals and conference proceedings refereed and a hundred oral presentations or by posters. He is the member of scientific and organizing committees of several national and international conferences
